I got a book out of the library called Home Harmony and it's about creating your home based on the different elements of energy that exist in the world and in each person. Your particular element and energy base determine your personality and how you view and relate to the world. How you view life has a profound effect on your behavior and lifestyle.
The theory of the 5 elements has existed in various forms throughout history and generally states that everything in nature is connected and mutually dependent. The Chinese call this whole life energy ,Tao (we think of it as cosmic consciousness or universal mind or something like that) The Tao manifests through 2 balancing energies, Yin and Yang. There is Yin and Yang in everything and so there isn't only Yin or only Yang, but always some of each. It can get out of balance, so the goal is to keep a balance to create a happy and fulfilling life.
Yin energy is feminine and is therefore receptive and inactive.
Yang energy is masculine and is giving and communicating.
On the physical level, the Tao manifests itself in the 5 elements:
fire(red) sensual, passionate, like excitement and drama, unpredictable, intuitive, empathetic
wood(green) independent, assertive, strive to surpass their limits, ambitious, optimistic
earth(yellow) unifier, mediator, promote lasting and peaceful relationships, caring, stable
water(blue/black) clever, articulate and introspective, self sufficient, strive for knowledge
metal(white) analytical, clever, independent, organizer, practical, ruled by the mind not heart
The different elements have different effects on each other and that's where the balancing act comes in.
Anyway, I have found all of this very interesting and for some reason, I like it. I am not a spiritual person, at least not in the standard way, but this idea of balancing and working together makes sense to me. I don't think any of these descriptions are set in stone, but there is a lot of common sense concerning people and how they differ.
Here's a list of the energy/elements for each type of person, based on the last digit of your birth year:
0 yang metal
1 yin metal
2 yang water
3 yin water
4 yang wood
5 yin wood
6 yang fire
7 yin fire
8 yang earth
9 yin earth
Well, that should give everyone something to think about. I'll write more later. It really is fun and fascinating

I like the set up and the pictures on your blog. I am glad to see you have one and will try to check it more often. It does turn into a chore to keep them updated and to continue to check and post on them. Leah told me that once and I didn't believe here. Now I do....
